Julie Bishop - Former Minister Foreign Affairs 13-2018. Advice when planning.

Amazing presentation from Julie Bishop today that was well received by the audience at the Rubrik Data Security talks. An audience member asked Julie for some advice. The take away was that she recommended a 3 point plan - It's important to ask the tough questions that need to be asked, that she heard from a professor.

It goes like this.... Always ask:

1) Compared to what? Is there another plan? What else is out there, what can I do?

2) At what cost? Personally, financially, politically etc

3) On what evidence? What is the hard evidence, on what I am I relying upon. If there is no hard evidence, then calculate the risk

4) (Julie added her own 4th step): What could possibly go wrong? Have you considered all the unintended consequences from your decision and action.

Have those honest conversations. It's important to contest ideas. Ask in a collaborative way, tone, body language.
